Abu Dhabi Airports has announced the award of concessionaire contracts to four F&B retailers for the new Midfield Terminal.
Emirates Leisure Retail (ELR), HMSHost International, Lagardère Capital, and SSP were successful after more than 80 concessionaires submitted more than 250 brands, according to Abu Dhabi Airports.
“Bearing in mind the wide demographic that we will be catering to, we are thrilled with the pioneering, avant-garde approaches that we have been able to gather together under one roof,” said Mohamed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, chief executive of Abu Dhabi Airports.
In December, Aer Rianta International, a Dublin operator of duty free and airport retail outlets in Europe, Middle East, North America and New Zealand, was awarded a contract to design and operate the duty free section for perfumes, cosmetics, skincare, sunglasses and jewellery. Lagardère Capital, a joint venture between the investment company Abu Dhabi Capital Group and the French travel retailer Lagardère Travel Retail, will operate the tobacco, confectionery, and fine foods outlets.
Midfield Terminal is set to open on National Day 2017 and will take the airport’s overall capacity to 45 million passengers a year. In 2015, a record 23.3 million passengers used the airport as their origin, destination, or transit point.
