Accidents, traffic jams hit Dubai as schools re-open

Dubai: A number of busy routes and highways leading into Dubai were blocked with traffic on Sunday morning on the first day that schools started the new semester.

Commuters driving from Sharjah to Dubai were stuck in snail-paced traffic as they attempted to make their way to work at the start of the week.

Dubai Police also issued a cautionary message to motorists, warning them to slow down near school zones.

Tailbacks were reported on Shaikh Zayed Road near Al Garhoud, and all the way up to the Dubai Mall interchange.

An accident was reported on Ras Al Khor road after the Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road intersection, towards Dubai Mall.

Tailbacks were reported on Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road, as well as the route into Airport Tunnel, as another accident occurred on Al Ittihad road opposite Dubai International Airport.
