ABU DHABI, 7th May, 2018 (WAM) — Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of the Federal National Council, FNC, and Ali Abdel Aal, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Egypt, today discussed, at the FNC’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi, the parliamentary relations between the UAE and Egypt, exchanging knowledge and visits, and promoting cooperation on issues of mutual interest.
The meeting was also attended by Martin Chungong, Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, IPU, and Wael Al Sayed Mohammed Gad, Ambassador of Egypt to the UAE.
The meeting addressed the outcomes of the second meeting of the two-day IPU High-Level Advisory Group on Countering Terrorism and Violent Extremism, which was held in Abu Dhabi.
Both sides highlighted the importance of international cooperation in countering terrorist groups and taking relevant comprehensive measures through a clear and unified strategy.
Dr. Al Qubaisi and Aal stressed the importance of strengthening the parliamentary cooperation between the FNC and the Egyptian House of Representatives, which is a model of Arab parliamentary cooperation that serves Arab and Islamic causes, especially of gathering support for priority causes.
The meeting witnessed a presentation on the outcomes and recommendations of Arab and international parliamentary meetings and on how to cooperate to implement joint action, as well as on the means of dealing with the challenges facing Arab and international parliamentary work.
Dr. Al Qubaisi said that their bilateral meetings discussed the means of promoting the joint work between the two countries, to achieve their developmental goals and strategic visions regarding issues of mutual interest, as well as to help develop and support their political, economic, trade and cultural relations, according to the cooperation agreements that they signed.
Aal expressed his happiness at the ongoing meetings between the UAE and Egypt, which reflect the deep and authentic ties between their people.
Chungong stated that the IPU aims to strengthen its cooperation with the FNC and support the initiatives that have enabled the IPU, FNC and the United Nations, UN, to do their essential work, which includes combatting terrorism as one international community.
The UAE is one of the countries that has made considerable efforts to combat terrorism, which also has a tolerant and harmonious society and has adopted good practices that can be shared with other countries, he added.
