Apartment gutted in Sharjah fire

Sharjah: Sharjah Police have started an investigation into the cause of a fire that broke out in a residential building in Al Ghuwair area on Thursday.

The fire started at about 2.27pm in the sixth-floor apartment of the seven-storey building, Colonel Sami Al Naqbi, Director of Sharjah Civil Defence told Gulf News. Fire brigade units of Sharjah Civil Defence quickly responded to control the blaze.

The fire gutted the entire apartment in addition to a car parked under the building. The apartment was empty when the fire broke out and other residents of the building were evacuated safely, Colonel Al Naqbi said.

A firefighter and a resident of the building, identified as 40-year-old M.R. from India, were rushed to Al Kuwaiti Hospital due to smoke inhalation. They were discharged from the hospital after receiving necessary treatment.

Another fire broke out in a plastic material scrapyard in Al Sajja area in Sharjah on Thursday afternoon.

Col. Al Naqbi said no injuries were reported in the blaze that started at around 1.13pm. Workers in the nearby premises were evacuated for their safety.
