Can departing UAE resident pay off debts from abroad?

My mother has passed on and my father is also not well so I am planning to return to my home country. I have an outstanding loan in the UAE, but is there a way I can make the payment from abroad? I have been offered a job that pays similar to what I earn in the UAE. HF, Abu Dhabi

My condolences for your loss. In theory it is perfectly possible to make loan repayments from abroad, but you should agree on this with your bank and be able to demonstrate the ability to repay. If you leave employment in the UAE your last salary payment, which should include your end-of-service gratuity, will be marked as such, which is likely to lead to the bank account being frozen, especially when there is a debt. The helpfulness will depend on the bank and the amount outstanding, but I know of cases in which this has been done. Be aware that the bank does not have to agree, as loans are often conditional on salary payments being made to the financial institution.
