Caution: Winds to whip up dust, sand in UAE

Dubai: A blanket of dust and sand is expected to sweep across the UAE this week, according to national weather forecasters.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) said that strong northwesterly winds will blow over the sea and into the country, which will pick up a significant amount of dust at times.

“[It will be] partly cloudy weather in general and hazy at times, with moderate to strong winds in general, especially over the sea and exposed areas, causing dust to blow at times,” said the NCM.

The UAE’s Storm Centre posted a satellite image of the weather condition in the region, which illustrated the current rainfall in Saudi Arabia that is expected to develop into a downpour during the next few days.

UAE weather stations will monitor any changes that may result from Saudi Arabia’s unstable weather.

In its weekly weather forecast, the NCM explained that temperatures will increase over the next few days and reach a maximum of 37 degrees Celsius in internal areas with 90 per cent humidity.

Temperatures in coastal areas will range from 20-32C and 17-28C in the mountain region, with the level of humidity to reach a maximum of 85 per cent and 55 per cent respectively.

“The level of humidity will increase by night and in the early morning over some coastal and internal areas. Sea will range from rough to very rough over the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea,” said the NCM.

However, temperatures are expected to drop on Friday, with an increase in clouds forming over the northern and eastern areas.
