ABU DHABI, 18th January, 2018 (WAM) — Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the UAE Water Aid Foundation, Suqia, has welcomed a delegation from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, UNHCR.
The delegation included Amin Awad, Director of the Bureau for the Middle East and North Africa, Andrew Harper, Director of the Division of Programme Support and Management, Toby Harward, Head of Office, and Dalal Al Sharhan, Senior External Relations Associate. The meeting supports Suqia’s charitable and humanitarian efforts, under the umbrella of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI).
The meeting was attended by Waleed Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, DEWA, Dr Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources, Marwan Bin Haider, Executive Vice President of Innovation and the Future, Khawla Al Mehairi, Executive Vice President of Strategy & Government Communications at DEWA, and Mohammed Abdulkareem Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of Suqia. The meeting took place at the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) in Abu Dhabi.
The meeting discussed Suqia’s projects to support Research & Development to develop sustainable solutions to water scarcity around the world, as well using clean energy in water desalination.
It also discussed the UNHCR’s efforts to improve the lives of refugees and displaced people around the world, and provide camps with clean energy and drinking water.
Al Tayer discussed cooperation with the UNHCR to achieve shared goals to improve the living conditions of needy communities around the world, noting that Suqia’s projects have benefited over 8 million people so far in 25 countries, in collaboration with leading charitable and humanitarian organisations.
He said that during the Year of Giving, Suqia implemented 85 development projects in 21 countries benefiting 550,000 people.
“In line with the vision and directives of the Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Suqia will continue its development initiatives and projects during the Year of Zayed to support the UAE’s efforts in commemorating the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and carry on the journey of giving and supporting the needy all over the world. This supports Suqia’s mission to provide potable water to the needy, the disadvantaged, and those who are in distress around the world, as well as supporting international efforts to develop sustainable and innovative solutions to global water scarcity through studies, research, and solar-powered projects to desalinate water,” said Al Tayer.
