Culture of giving, volunteering an important indicator of community advancement: Khalifa bin Mohamed

ABU DHABI, 5th December, 2017 (WAM) — Sheikh Khalifa bin Mohamed bin Khalid Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Wajib Volunteer Team in Abu Dhabi, praised the considerable support given by the country to volunteering institutions, activities and programmes, both inside and outside the UAE.

He said that support for volunteer work is taking place under the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, while referring to the support being received by many institutions and programmes that promote volunteer work, such as the Emirates Foundation for Youth Development, the Takatuf Programme for Social Volunteering and the National Volunteering Platform.


He also lauded the efforts of the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, led by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the ERC, and its local and international volunteering activities while thanking the Ministry of Community Development and its departments, as well as local community development authorities, for their exceptional efforts to strengthen the UAE’s presence in volunteering programmes and activities on Arab and international levels.

In a speech marking International Volunteer Day, Sheikh Khalifa bin Mohamed said that the UAE community is used to volunteering since its establishment, and especially during the period before the discovery of oil. These foundations were derived from Islam and traditional Arab values and customs, which call for solidarity and helping others, he added.

He affirmed that the culture of giving and volunteer work is an indicator of the advancement of communities and a major driver of development, which contributed to the UAE’s leading position in the social and humanitarian arena.
