DCL analyzes thousands of food and environmental samples

WAM Dubai, Sept. 6th, 2011 (WAM) — Food and Environment Laboratory Section of Dubai Central Laboratory at Dubai Municipality received 13,225 food samples during the first half of the current year to make sure its conformity to the applicable specifications.

11,483 food samples were examined for the purpose of quality control of products offered in the markets of the emirate. DCL also received 1,742 food samples from the private sector and other municipal departments.

Hawar Abdullah Bastaki, Director of DCL said the department performed 65,563 chemical and microbiological testing of food samples during the said period. 1,879 environmental samples have been received by the environment laboratory during the same period. 13,399 microbiologic and chemical examinations were executed to detect environmental pollutants.

The department conducts a range of research and studies in order to raise the efficiency of different tests and the development of new tests according to the modern technology of food industries. It also aims to meet the needs of beneficiaries of services rendered according to the requirements of the accreditation program and quality control system in food laboratories.

122 chemical, microbiological and environmental tests have been developed at the level of Food and Environment Laboratory to include it in the tests scheme adopted for 2011.
