DCT Abu Dhabi to participate in Riyadh International Book Fair

ABU DHABI, 12th March, 2018 (WAM) — The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, DCT Abu Dhabi, has announced its participation in the Riyadh International Book Fair, held under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia, under the theme ‘Books… The Future of Transformation’.

This event, taking place at the Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Centre from 14th to 24th March, will celebrate the UAE as its Guest of Honour for this year.

The Riyadh International Book Fair is the largest in Saudi Arabia followed by the Jeddah International Book Fair. It is also the best-selling among all other Arab exhibitions, with more than 500 Arab and international publishing houses and more than 80 cultural events. Additionally, the book fair plays host to a Guest of Honour, for each of its editions, to present its literary history and publications to visitors, as well as allow the guest country to participate in its many cultural events and seminars, and poetry readings.

Through its pavilion, DCT Abu Dhabi will offer a variety of activities, underlining the most important translations of the Kalima Translation Project, and will seek to identify the Saudi side’s view of Emirati cultural creativity.

This participation also provides an opportunity for participants to plan or develop and select new partners in the Saudi market, as well as establish partnership and cooperation agreements with a number of Saudi publishing houses and cultural institutions.

Abdullah Majid Al Ali, Acting Executive Director of the National Library Sector at the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, said, “The UAE’s selection as a guest of honour for this year’s edition of the Riyadh International Book Fair reflects the strong relations between the two sister countries and consolidates the bonds between the two leaderships and their nations.”

Al Ali added, “Through our participation this year, we aim to highlight the projects and ideas, which will be presented for the first time at the 28th Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, to be held from 25th April to 1st May. The UAE pavilion will also underscore the status of the book fair as a global platform introducing the latest developments in the world’s publishing industry, as well as exchanging ideas and expertise, and launching creative initiatives to support the publishing industry and the world’s readership.”

Through its pavilion, DCT Abu Dhabi will showcase its flagship cultural projects launched at the regional and international levels, in addition to showcasing 650 of its most popular authored and translated publications and offering the latest updates on the 28th edition of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair.
