DUBAI, 19th December, 2017 (WAM) — The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, DEWA, has organised a series of events, activities, and workshops, on World Arabic Language Day, as part of the UAE’s leadership to support Arabic language, and in recognition of DEWA’s policy to strengthen the national identity of Emirati people.
This occasion is celebrated annually on 18th December, the day the General Assembly of the United Nations approved Arabic as an official and working language.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, said that under the directives of the Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to support the UAE Vision 2021 as becoming a global ‘centre of excellence’ for Arabic, DEWA supports Arabic language as a key tool for maintaining a cohesive society.
He added that World Arabic Language Day engagement is a way to renew a commitment to continue launching programmes and initiatives aimed at connecting Emiratis to their culture, and deep-rooted Arab values. “This supports the objectives of the UAE Centennial 2071, and the Dubai Plan 2021, to make Dubai a home for people who cherish their culture,” Al Tayer concluded.
