DEWA Platinum Sponsor of 22nd Dubai International Holy Qur’an Award

DUBAI, 30th May, 2018 (WAM) — The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, DEWA, is a Platinum Sponsor of the 22nd Dubai International Holy Qur’an Award, which runs until 20 Ramadan 1439 AH (2018AD).

The event will take place at the amphitheatre of the Dubai Chamber, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.

This year’s award is named “Zayed Al Khair” in line with the Year of Zayed in the UAE, which celebrates the birth centennial of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. This is part of DEWA’s corporate social responsibility, CSR, programme to sponsor cultural, religious and social events that improve the establishment of Islam’s values and principles within society.

“Every year, we sponsor the activities of the Dubai International Holy Qur’an Award because of its great value and importance in urging Muslim communities around the world to read, memorise and recite the Holy Qur’an, especially during the Holy Month of Ramadan. Through this sponsorship, we seek to promote this prestigious award among global awards and competitions.

“The award has received great attention and participation from Islamic countries and communities. This supports our efforts to promote Dubai and the UAE’s status as a global hub for culture and humanitarianism. This also supports the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to highlight the meaning of tolerance and moderation in the teachings of Islam,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA.

He commended the efforts of the organisers by paying special tribute to the distinguished personalities and organisations who serve Islam around the world, supporting the talents of international reciters, and highlighting their excellence in the service of the Holy Qur’an and its teachings.

Al Tayer noted that DEWA is committed to being a socially responsible government organisation. DEWA launched an integrated programme of CSR work in 2018 to meet the objectives of the national initiative to commemorate the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed and implement projects and initiatives that reflect his values and vision.

The programme consists of six main programmes to provide 29 initiatives and includes many activities and events that reflect the noble principles and values instilled by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in the hearts of the citizens and residents of the UAE.
