DHA signs organ transplantation pact with Italian varsity

Dubai: The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the University of Udine, a pioneer in organ transplantation programmes, to set up a joint programme of cooperation at the scientific, educational, research and medical levels.

The University of Udine, founded in 1978, is an Italian scientific institution known for its organ transplantation programme (liver, kidneys and bone marrow). The university is also known for its heart transplantation and cardiology (including emergency in coronary diseases, oncology, rheumatology and autoimmune diseases, molecular diagnostics ad regenerative medicine) programmes.

The agreement was signed by Humaid Mohammad Obaid Al Qutami, chairman of the Board and director-general of the DHA, and Professor Alberto Felice De Toni, the rector of the University of Udine.

Commenting on the agreement, Al Qutami said DHA aims to expand its partnerships with different medical, scientific and academic organisations to exchange experiences and learn about the latest international innovations in the medical field.

He added that the partnership is important because of its specialisation in organ transplantation, which will provide the authority with an important opportunity to exchange experiences and knowledge in the field.
