Dubai Police launches surveillance programme

DUBAI, 27th January, 2018 (WAM) — The Dubai Police General HQ has launched the Oyoon (Eyes) project with the support and participation of the governmental, semi-governmental and private sectors to implement the Dubai 2021 plan and to enhance the emirate’s global position it terms of providing a safer living experience for all citizens, residents and visitors and becoming a safe city for living, visiting and work,” the Government of Dubai Media Office reported on Saturday In addition to boosting the force’s security capabilities especially as Dubai has been achieving high rates in terms of investments, economy and tourism.

In a press conference, Major General Ibrahim Khalil Al Mansouri , Assistant Commander for Criminal Investigations of Dubai Police, said the aim of the project is to create an integrated security system that works through all strategic partners to exploit modern and sophisticated technologies and artificial intelligence features to prevent crime, reduce traffic accident related deaths, prevent any negative incidents in residential, commercial and vital areas and to be able to respond immediately to incidents even before they get reported to the command unit.

Maj-Gen Al Mansouri said the project also contributes to supporting the decision-making process, ensuring the protection of all vital areas and roads, and optimizing the use of human resources through reducing human intervention, especially in the areas of monitoring, analysis and surveillance.

”The project is an effective translation of the UAE’s strategy for artificial intelligence to achieve its objectives of relying on services, data analysis and smart application in various fields of work efficiently and effectively. In addition to integrating the first line services of the Dubai Police provided to the public through artificial intelligence in the main police operations,” he was quoted by the media office saying.

Maj-Gen Al Mansouri said a project committee was formed and includes strategic partners from the government sector such as the State Security Agency, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) , Dubai Municipality, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC), Dubai Smart Office, and strategic partners such as Nakheel Group, Miraas Group, Dubai Properties, DWTC, Dubai Global Village, and Madinat Jumeirah.

Maj-Gen Al Mansouri added that the Oyoon committee will set standards on the installation and use of all CCTV cameras across the Emirate of Dubai, and conduct field studies across all jurisdiction areas to ensure highest levels of security and safety in the region.

Maj-Gen Al Mansouri noted that Dubai has the most advanced technology in CCTV cameras systems that enable security personnel to achieve the goals in fields of crime prevention, investigating any violations and monitoring traffic accidents, thus enhancing the sense of security of all residents in the Emirate.

For his part, Wissam Lootah, Executive Director of Dubai Smart Government, said: “Oyoon will be of great benefit to the Emirate of Dubai in terms of enhancing the security aspect of the community; providing very important data and thus improving the level of services at the emirate level and enhancing its efficiency.”

Engineer Saif bin Ghalaita, Director of the Department of Technology Development of TRA, said: “We are delighted to cooperate with Dubai Police in such a huge project” Oyoun “, which will surely have vital and positive effects on the Emirate of Dubai.” ” We [as a federal entity] will be able to contribute to the infrastructure in terms of providing technical advice on future technologies and artificial intelligence techniques.”
