Dubai taxi driver in court for obscene act

Suspect admits to pleasing himself in taxi in front of woman passenger as he almost hit another car

Dubai: A taxi driver has been accused of obscenely gesturing in public and breaching the modesty of a woman passenger, who saw him satisfying himself when he dodged an accident.

The Iranian woman was said to have asked the 30-year-old Pakistani taxi driver to transport her from The Dubai Mall to her residence in the Business Bay area in December.

When the driver lost control over his steering wheel and almost caused an accident, the woman instantly looked at the driver and realised that he was masturbating, records said.

Shocked at the obscene act of the driver, who almost crashed into another vehicle, the woman screamed loudly at him and asked him to pull over.

The woman jumped out of the taxi and scolded the driver, who grabbed her wrist as she fell down.

Then he tried to take away her purse and mobile phone but she stopped him.

The woman called the police as she was still sitting on the pavement while the driver absconded when pedestrians started crowding around.

Police apprehended the taxi driver who was identified from his car number plate.

Prosecutors accused the Pakistani suspect of making an indecent gesture in public and breaching the woman’s privacy and modesty when he masturbated in front of her. He was also accused of attempting to steal her mobile phone and wallet.

The suspect pleaded guilty and admitted to the accusation when he appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance.

“Yes she saw me pleasing myself and gazing at her through the mirror … but I did not try to steal her phone or wallet. She had filmed me and I was trying to take the phone to erase the images,” he contended in court.
