ABU DHABI, 30th November, 2022 (WAM) — The National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) recently organised a workshop with the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Branch at the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
The workshop, held in Abu Dhabi on 29th November, 2022, focused on the role of national human rights institutions, relevant mechanisms, and ways of contributing to the national periodic review reports.
Last October, NHRI conducted an organisational retreat with the OHCHR, making this workshop part of the continuos efforts by NHRI to engage with the relevant international organisations.
In compliance with “Paris Principles”, the engagements aim to develop appropriate mechanisms for the progress of human rights in the UAE.
Commenting on the workshop, Fatima Al Kaabi, Deputy Chairperson of NHRI, expressed her appreciation toward the OHCHR for their continuous collaborations and the exchange of experiences that will significantly contribute to the development of NHRI in relations to building strategies and mechanisms aimed at protecting human rights.
