DUBAI, 21st March, 2018 (WAM) — Marking the World Water Day tomorrow, the Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation, Empower, announced that it has saved 295 million gallons of potable water in 2017, equivalent to 537 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
World Water Day is a global event that plays an important role in drawing attention to the importance of preserving water. It is also an opportunity to raise awareness among community members on different ways to improve their behaviour of water consumption.
“At Empower, we renew our national and moral commitment to preserve our natural resources, and achieve sustainable development goals. This supports the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, which aims to establish a sustainable energy-saving model and support economic growth without harming the environment. It also supports the Demand Side Management Strategy that aims to reduce energy and water demand by 30 percent by 2030,” said Ahmad bin Shafar, CEO of Empower.
Bin Shafar explained that saving on water consumption is one of the prime focus areas of Empower, which let the company to successfully pioneer Treated Sewage Effluent, TSE, technology in combination with Reverse Osmosis, RO, technology.
Empower uses RO technology in the desalination of dual or triple treated wastewater, which has contributed to saving large quantities of potable water.
