Dubai, 21st January, 2018 (WAM) — The Emirates Scientists Council, ESC, in collaboration with the Emirates Youth Council, has launched a new board dedicated to young professionals and enthusiasts in the scientific fields, entitled the Youth Science Council.

The council will be represented by youth who are studying in the science and technology fields. The focus of the council will be as advocates for the role of youth in sciences and engineering-driven careers. Members will work on programmes that promote science among the UAE’s youth, leading towards the skills of the future, and the UAE’s Centennial Plan. The council will accept submissions from potential candidates until 4th February, 2018, on its website.

Regarding the Council, Sarah Al Amiri, Minister of State for Advanced Sciences and ESC Chairperson, said, “Launching this new council, in collaboration with the Emirates Youth Council, is a powerful way for us to expand the ESC’s reach and tap into the high-potential segment of innovative young scientists, who are the future of all science-driven sectors. This resonates with the ESC’s mandate to create a stimulating environment for research, supportive of the needs of a generation of scientists in different scientific fields.

“The Youth Science Council reinforces young people’s role and further engages them in the science and technology sector. It encourages youth participation in driving the National Youth Agenda, the Science Agenda and various aspects of the UAE Vision 2021, all the while providing a unified and sustainable platform to engage decision-makers in the science community and galvanise youth-led initiatives. This project, in partnership with the ESC, allows us to achieve our mission of empowering the youth particularly, the scientifically inclined and steer them towards an emerging and influential field,” noted Shamma Suhail Al Mazroui, Minister of State for Youth and Chairperson of Emirates Youth Council.

The key objectives of the council are providing an adequate environment that integrates the youth into the science community in the UAE; developing initiatives and projects tailored to the interests of the youth; empowering and developing young talents in the science and technology sector; guaranteeing the effective sharing of resources and knowledge between youth, the science community and parties of interest, and finally, driving youth initiatives in the field of advanced sciences.

The ESC was launched in line with the directives of the Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who has called on organisations in the UAE to come together in supporting the future-focused scientific directions of the government.
