First International Festival of the Sudanese Palm and Dates concludes in Khartoum

KHARTOUM, 11th December, 2017 (WAM) — The First International Festival of the Sudanese Palm and Dates, which concluded on 10th December, was held under the directives of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.

The festival, which started last Tuesday, was attended by Bakri Hassan Saleh, First Vice President and Prime Minister of Sudan; Dr. Abdul Latif Al Ajimi, Federal Minister of Agriculture and Forestry; Hamad Mohammed Humaid Al Junaibi, UAE Ambassador to Sudan, and Dr. Abdul Wahab Zayed, Secretary-General of the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation.

During the inauguration ceremony, Saleh highlighted the importance of the historic overall relations between the UAE and Sudan, especially in agriculture.

Ambassador Al Junaibi noted the festival’s importance in strengthening the close relations between the UAE and Sudan while adding that the festival, which was held for the first time in Sudan, and its related events are major national occasions.

Dr. Zayed said that the festival was organised upon the directives of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, with the aim of promoting the palm tree industry and the farming of dates in Sudan. The initiative also confirms the deep relations between the UAE and Sudan and has promoted joint cooperation in the agricultural sector, he added, highlighting the UAE’s leading role in supporting the date palm industry and related projects, to improve and develop its farming, production and marketing on Arab and international levels.
