How to use that selfie to help poor children

Back to School campaign will donate Dh1 to Unicef every time a mall visitor shares their moment

Dubai: Visitors to Majid Al Futtaim shopping malls in the UAE can now contribute to helping children get access to quality education, as part of the annual Back to School Campaign.

By capturing great moments spent at Mall of the Emirates and City Centre Deira, Mirdif and Me’aisem in Dubai and City Centre Sharjah in the Northern Emirates and uploading them on social media, visitors can provide help to vulnerable children across the region.

Until September 12, everyone is invited to post photos and videos of their special time spent with family and friends in the participating malls on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram using the hashtag #mygreatmoments.

For every #mygreatmoments post shared, Dh1 will be donated to Unicef.

Seven hundred posts using the hashtag #mygreatmoments can help one child go to school. All funds raised will go towards improving access to education and development, and in providing child-friendly, safe learning environments.

“As part of our Back to School campaign, we are excited to make a difference in communities that need it the most,” said Fuad Mansour Sharaf, managing director at Majid Al Futtaim Properties, Shopping Malls (UAE, Bahrain & Oman).

“We recognise the importance of education and enabling children to unlock their full potential, and encourage mall visitors to share their great moments to help us get as many children as possible their right to education.”

In the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, around 14 million children 5-14 years old are not in school while one in every four children live in poverty. They are deprived of the most basic necessities including education, decent housing, nutritious food, quality health care, safe water, sanitation and access to information.

Unicef works to ensure that all children have access to basic services such as health and nutrition, protection, and education, everywhere, all the time.
