Huge fire breaks out in Ajman’s Factory Mart

Ajman: A huge fire broke out in Factory Mart, popular among residents and visitors for affordable clothes and accessories, in Ajman Industrial Area in late afternoon on Saturday.

The fire erupted around 4.15pm and there have been no reports of deaths or injuries so far.

Firefighters from Ajman, Dubai, Sharjah and Umm Al Quwain fought the blaze which had spread quickly to several shops in the area.

A plume of thick, black smoke could be seen billowing from the building from a distance.

“We immediately took the necessary measures to prevent the fire from spreading,” an official at Ajman Civil Defence told Gulf News.

Ajman Civil Defence along with Ajman Police are working to control the movement of traffic near the area.

Shoppers, shop owners and workers were evacuated from the area.

Factory Mart, located in the industrial area, is a commercial area with dozens of shops selling clothes, perfumes, handbags and shoes in addition to household items.

The area is popular among residents and visitors and is usually packed during weekends.
