Stepson, 16, saved mother from being suffocated by suspect who also threatened to kill her
Dubai: An Emirati man has been accused of cursing and beating his wife, throwing her out of his house and threatening to kill her, a court heard on Tuesday.
The Iranian housewife was said to have indulged in a heated argument with her 43-year-old husband before he began repeatedly beating her with a clothes hanger and injuring her in May.
The 43-year-old was also believed to have cursed his wife, according to records, before his 16-year-old stepson intervened to stop him from suffocating his mother.
After he kicked his wife out of the marital house, the husband also purportedly threatened to kill her if she returned home.
The housewife reported the matter to the police who summoned the husband for questioning.
After being referred to the Family and Juveniles Prosecution, the 43-year-old Emirati was charged with assaulting and cursing his wife, and verbally threatening to kill her if she ever considered to return to his house after he had kicked her out.
The suspect pleaded not-guilty and refuted all accusations when he appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Tuesday.
“I did not beat or curse her … I did not threaten her. She went out of the house on her own and I didn’t ask her to do so,” the husband told presiding judge Abdul Halim Hussain.
The 31-year-old Iranian housewife testified to prosecutors that she had a heated argument with her husband, who used the hanger to beat her brutally. “We had a fight at 3am and then he beat and cursed me. Then he kicked me out of the house and called me a prostitute. He asked me to go back to my parents’ house and not return. My 16-year-old son jumped in and pushed the suspect away when he tried to choke me. In April, he also beat me and kicked my children and me out of the house. He also threatened to kill me,” the wife claimed to prosecutors.
The 16-year-old stepson testified to prosecutors that he went and saved his mother when the 43-year-old suspect was beating her and trying to suffocate her.
The trial continues.
