Indonesian delegation praises role of GWU in supporting women’s leadership, empowerment

ABU DHABI, 4th July, 2018 (WAM) — An Indonesian delegation praised the efforts of the General Women’s Union, GWU, to promote women’s empowerment and leadership, through the support of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation.

The delegation made this statement while visiting the GWU’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi, where they were briefed about the GWU’s establishment and its national strategy, as well as its work and key achievements related to women’s empowerment, including its contributions to women’s legislation and developing the capacities of women in community service, as well as its efforts to empower women and encourage their political participation through relevant initiatives.

The delegation toured Al Jawhara Hall and viewed the medals and shields received by Sheikha Fatima from local and international organisations honouring her for her charity and humanitarian initiatives and her role in supporting Emirati women, which contributed to the process of community development.

The delegation also toured the “Development Centre for Innovation,” where they were briefed about its key awareness programmes, and various sections of the GWU, including a permanent exhibition that houses and preserves pieces that showcase the UAE’s heritage, and other sections that highlight the UAE’s traditional lifestyles, such as a Bedouin section and an urban section.

At the end of the visit, the members of the delegation expressed their admiration for the GWU’s “Heritage and Craft Industries Administration.”
