International conference praises UAE’s humanitarian efforts

HARVARD, United States, 31st March, 2018 (WAM) — The International Conference on Humanitarian Crises, which was held at Harvard Club of Boston last week, has hailed the UAE’s pioneering role in humanitarian field.

The participants praised H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, for her role in supporting the maternal and child health programmes within the UAE and abroad.

The conference, which organised by BIDMC Fellowship in Disaster Medicine, was attended by leading international institutions working in the disaster and humanitarian medicine and a selection of experts from international universities around the world.


The participants praised the leading humanitarian role of Sheikha Fatima Global Humanitarian Campaign “Provide Medical Treatment,” for women and children, which presented an unprecedented and innovative model in the medical field through mobile clinics and field hospitals, the first of its kind in the world to support the health of this segment of the society. The initiative has been able to contribute effectively in finding realistic solutions to women and children health problems.

Speaking at the conference, Dr. Adel Alshamry, CEO of Zayed Giving Initiative, highlighted the UAE’s efforts in humanitarian work in general and medical field in particular through the initiative and the Fatima bint Mubarak Volunteering Programme.

Dr. Alshamry presented a paper on the role of Sheikha Fatima’s volunteering programme, and stressed that the conference review of Sheikha Fatima international campaign, comes in recognition of her role in supporting and empowering Emirati and Arab women.

He said that UAE will hold the second session of the conference in Abu Dhabi next year, which shows confidence of the participants on country’s capabilities.

Professor Gregory R. Ciottone, Director of BIDMC Fellowship in Disaster Medicine, praised the initiatives launched by Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak to empower Emirati women in various humanitarian fields, and pointed out her important role at the local, Arab and international levels.

Noura Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the General Women’s Union, said that the tribute of the Harvard Conference to Sheikha Fatima’s initiative reflects a distinguished international appreciation for the role of the UAE and its international humanitarian work, which was established by the Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
