Khalifa Foundation launches Ramadan Iftar project

ABU DHABI, 29th April, 2018 (WAM) — The Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation has launched a Ramdan Iftar project, as part of its seasonal humanitarian projects and programmes for the Holy Month of Ramadan, that aim to benefit the largest number of people under the framework of social solidarity.

During a press conference, which was held today and attended by the foundation’s partners and sponsors, Mohammed Haji Al Khouri, Director-General of the Foundation, stated that the project will be implemented around the country and will witness the distribution of 915,000 meals, or some 30,500 daily meals, in cooperation with 305 families who will prepare the meals, as well as Emirates Post and Emirates Transport, who will deliver the meals to 105 distribution locations.

Dr. Mariam Hareb Al Suwaidi, Executive Director of the Monitoring Sector at the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority, said that the authority supports productive families in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra, by providing training and inspecting and supervising the activities of the facilities and kitchens where the Iftar meals will be prepared, to ensure that they comply with food safety standards.

She added that the sector is raising the awareness of productive families, in coordination with its partners, by holding training courses and awareness meetings, and directly communicating with them through inspection teams.

She also highlighted their ongoing coordination with the foundation to empower productive families, as well as their cooperation with the Ramadan Iftar project, to improve the knowledge and skills of families in selecting ingredients and preparing various meals, which has led to a surge in the number of productive families and an improvement in the quality of food.

Ibrahim Mohammed Al Marzouki, Director of Organisational Communication and Public Relations at the ADNOC Distribution Company, said that his company’s participation as a key sponsor of the initiative is part of its social responsibility and its efforts to promote volunteering among children and the youth, while enabling Emirati families to be productive during the Holy Month and promoting the spirit of cooperation among the local community, through the distribution of these meals.

Obaid Al Qatami, Acting Commercial Director of the Emirates Post Group, said that they have been cooperating with the foundation for six years in distributing the meals made by productive families.

Colonel Tarek Saleh Al Sharif, Representative of the General Command of the Civil Defence, highlighted the role of the Civil Defence in ensuring the security and safety of productive families, especially in kitchens, as well as providing them with safety.
