Man hangs himself from Abu Dhabi pedestrian bridge

Police investigating motive behind the incident which took place on Airport Road on Sunday morning

Abu Dhabi: A man committed suicide by hanging himself from the pedestrian bridge on Shaikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum Road, also known as Airport Road, in the UAE capital’s downtown on Sunday morning, Abu Dhabi police confirmed.

The police received a call at 11.19am on Sunday stating that a man — later identified as an Asian — was found hanging from a pedestrian bridge on Airport Road.

The police sent a team to investigate the incident. Emergency workers rushed the person to the hospital.

Police said, however, that investigations will continue until the motives behind the suicide are known.

Patrol vehicles of the Abu Dhabi Police cordoned off area and briefly closed the road, as police officers brought down the hanging body before the road was re-opened for traffic.
