Khalifa issues law setting up Abu Dhabi Government Media Bureau to develop media strategies and policies

Abu Dhabi: A media bureau has been established in Abu Dhabi to develop the government communication strategy and media policies in the emirate.

The Abu Dhabi Government Media Bureau (ADGMB), affiliated to the Abu Dhabi Executive Office, is set up under Law No.18 of 2018, issued by President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The media bureau is an independent corporate body enjoying the full legal capacity to perform its responsibilities and jurisdictions. It is based in Abu Dhabi, and may open branches in the emirate and beyond after approval by the Executive Council.

The media office is tasked with the preparing and developing the government communication and media strategy and policy. It is also responsible for approving media plans of government entities and companies and having them endorsed by the Executive Council.

Regulating and unifying the media discourse, and media competence and sponsorships in the emirate is also among the media bureau’s jurisdictions.

The media office will also coordinate with relevant government agencies, developing and implementing media policies and plans for local government, providing the media with accurate news and information related to Abu Dhabi and the government.

The ADGMB will represent the Abu Dhabi government in all-media related matters, and is tasked with preparing and organising relevant conferences and key messages in the emirate. It is responsible for arranging interviews conducted by the Chairman of the Executive Council and government officials with local and international media.

The ADGMB will have to follow up the broadcasting and publishing of these interviews and monitor their influence and impression on the public opinion.

The office will have a director general, who will be appointed upon a resolution by the Chairman of the Executive Council. He will suggest strategic and action plans, initiatives, programmes, projects and recommendations related to the ADGMB’s works and activities.

It can have a board of trustees made up of no less than three members and no more than seven members.

The setting up of the office comes within the framework of Abu Dhabi’s efforts to enhance its status on the local, regional and international levels and to keep pace with its achievements on various levels.
