Abu Dhabi: Hundreds of Emirati job-seekers turned up at the Open Day recruitment show of the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation on Wednesday but a large number of them had to return disappointed due to the huge influx of visitors.

The ministry issued more than 1,400 token to Emiratis looking for jobs as live registration and interviews were arranged for them at the fair. In partnership with the ministry, a large number of private companies from across the country participated in the event and conducted on spot interviews to recruit Emiratis job seekers.

The open day was organised by the ministry at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre where nationals from across the country thronged the venue hoping to secure a job for themselves.

Speaking to Gulf News, Shaima Al Hamoudi, 24, who came from Suweihan, but didn’t get a token to register for the open day jobs, said: “I reached the venue at 11am but they had already stopped issuing ticket numbers for registration. We had an impression we will get it by any time until 4pm. I came here from Suweihan and have to return highly disappointed.”

Abdullah Humaid, 31, from Abu Dhabi, said, “I applied at five companies like airport, Abu Dhabi Steel, two banks and Injazat. So I am hopeful somebody will call me to offer job.”

Humaid said: “I hope a salary of more than Dh20,000 which I was getting on my earlier job. Now I want to upgrade my profile and find better opportunities,” he said.

Another Emirati Abdullah Ali was looking for any job to begin with as he has been trying his luck for the last three years at the open day of the ministry but never received a call from the recruiters.

Ali’s qualification is High School (Grade 10 only) which he completed three years ago but still trying for opportunities to knock on his door.

“I applied at two banks but I didn’t discuss about the package and salaries and cleary told recruiters that I will accept whatever you will offer me,” Ali said.
