MOFAIC hosts cultural evening for participants of GAVI meetings

ABU DHABI, 11th December 2018 (WAM) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MOFAIC) hosted on Tuesday a cultural evening on the sidelines of the high-level conference for the Vaccine Alliance, Gavi’s 2018 mid-term review in Abu Dhabi, in the presence of President Mahamadou Issoufou of the Republic of Niger, and Carlos Agostinho do Rosario, Prime Minister of the Republic of Mozambique.

The conference brought together leaders and the global health community to review progress half way through Gavi’s 2016-2020 investment period, examine challenges and refine actions for increasing access to immunisation in the world’s poorest countries to help empower the next generation through health.

The evening was attended by Sultan Mohammed Al Shamsi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for International Development Affairs, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Gavi Board Chair, senior officials and diplomats.

President Issoufou thanked His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces for patronising the conference. He stressed the important role played by GAVI in providing assistance to different countries to immunise children.

Earlier today, MOFAIC organised an exhibition on the latest innovations in developing and delivering new vaccines to targeted areas.

Participants in the conference, including the Prime Minister of Mozambique, Al Shamsi and Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, visited the exhibition and were briefed on the new innovations and solutions, like the smart weather resistant vaccine receptacles and AI-based solutions.
