Ouch moment for Pakistan, fans remain in good spirit

Dubai: Pakistan’s cricket team got eliminated from the Asia Cup on Wednesday after getting defeated by Bangladesh but Pakistani netizens seem to have taken the defeat well.

The team had a shaky time during their time in the Asia Cup as they faced a defeat by arch rival India and had a tough match against Afghanistan that they eventually won. Yesterday, the team was finally “sent home” by Bangladesh.

However, largely, Pakistani fans seemed to have been expecting the defeat and took loss with good humour. They took to online platforms to share their sentiments.

Pakistani journalist, Ali Salman Alvi, @alisalmanalvi, congratulated the opposing team and criticised his: “…Bangladesh deserve a spot in the final. Sarfaraz was pathetic with his batting and captaincy. #PAKvBAN”

Twitter user Najeeb ul Hasnain, @get2najeeb, had similar sentiments: “Pakistan team deserve bashing like this from India and Bangladesh, because some of our young players were flying too high.”

Whereas, tweep Nazrana Yousufzai, @NazranaYusufzai, choose to see the bright side: “Look at the bright side. Pakistan saved by Bangladesh from consecutive 3rd humiliating defeat. #PAKvBAN”

User Ammara Siddique, @amara_siddique, encouraged fans to continue supporting their teams despite experiencing losses: “What if Pakistan lost this match? Even football teams like Argentina, Portugal and Germany couldn’t make it to finals. Stand by your team, the same way you stand by them when they win. Work hard boys. Good luck… @Bangladesh for the final. #PAKvBAN #AsiaCup2018”

Pakistani cricket enthusiasts also proved to have a sense of humour despite facing a rough defeat and shared memes.

Journalist Hasnain Iqbal, @hasnainiqbal, posted a quirky picture and wrote: “Mughal era painting of a Pakistani fielder.”

Tweep @Sehrish20, another Pakistan fan, shared a similar image during the Pakistan versus Afghanistan match and wrote: “Pakistani fielders today. #PAKvAFG”

Indian cricket fans also gave their analysis online.

Twitter user Shekhar Gupta‏ @ShekharGupta appreciated having Bangladesh in the final and posted: “The entire Asia Cup schedule was drawn with one objective: ensuring 3 India-Pakistan blockbusters. Brilliant Bangladesh are changing that script….”
