Thiruvananthapuram: In a tragic incident in south Kerala, a policeman who was involved in helping passengers injured in an accident was killed after being hit by a truck.
The incident happened early on Sunday morning on the Main Central Road in Kulakada, near Kottarakara in Kollam district.
The deceased was identified as Vipin Kumar, 35, a civil police officer in the armed reserve police camp. Two of his colleagues who were involved with Kumar in the rescue operation were injured.
In the first accident, the car hit a roadside post. The police officers arrived and began ferrying injured passengers to a nearby hospital.
They then decided to push the car to the side of the road, and it was then that the truck hit them, with Kumar being killed on the spot.
Last Thursday, three members of a family lost their lives in another road accident in south Kerala when their bike was rear-ended by a truck in Kayamkulam.
The deceased were identified as Rajeev, 36, his mother Rajamma, 64 and Rajeev’s son Midhun, 6.
All three were thrown off the bike, with the truck running over Rajamma and Midhun. Rajeev was rushed to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
In north Kerala, six people were killed in different road accidents on Saturday.
Two of them were killed when a bus ploughed into a bus shelter near Mangad in Kannur, while another two died when their car rammed into a truck near Meengangadi, Wayanad district.
A bike rider lost his life in a collision with a jeep in Meenangadi and a car-truck collision in Chakarakulam, Malappuram district, claimed another life.
