Saudi policeman fatally stabbed

Manama: A policeman was killed in Saudi Arabia after he was stabbed by an assailant late on Wednesday evening.

Sergeant Abdullah Mashari Al Quraishi was directing traffic on Al Jaish Avenue in the western city of Taif when he was fatally stabbed, Saudi news site Sabq reported.

The assailant fled the scene in the policeman’s patrol car and used the gun inside it to fire at security forces chasing him.

The policemen were able to neutralise the attacker after they wounded him. He was taken to hospital for treatment ahead of his questioning, Sabq added.

An earlier report said that two men had attacked the traffic policeman and that the police detained one of them after they wounded him while the other fled the scene.

No official statement has been released yet.
