Student on way to school hit by car

Sharjah: A five-year-old child is in hospital after being struck by a vehicle while he was walking to school with his mother.

The boy suffered moderate injuries after he was hit by a car on Tuesday at 7.30am.

He was taken to Al Qasimi Hospital and his condition is described as stable but he was kept under observation.

The motorist who was driving the car was taken into Wasit police custody for questioning.

Sharjah Police urged motorists to slow down near school zones to ensure children’s safety.

The incident is the second of its kind during the last two days

On Monday morning, a woman died after she was run over by a speeding taxi in Al Khan area while her 14-month-old daughter is fighting for her life in the ICU of Al Qassimi hospital in Sharjah

The incident occurred near Al Qasba bridge on Monday morning, Sharjah Police said

The taxi driver was taken into police custody for interrogation.

Hospital doctors told Gulf News on Tuesday that the baby girl is still in critical condition, while the body of her mother was handed over to the family on Tuesday.
