Summer without Accidents campaign reaches 49,000 people

Abu Dhabi: The ‘Summer without Accidents’ campaign has so far reached 49,000 persons in the emirate, according to official figures released by Abu Dhabi Police.

The Ministry of Interior launched the traffic campaign across the country to raise awareness among motorists with the aim of reducing accidents during the summer.

Abu Dhabi Police have conducted 114 traffic awareness and safety programmes, urging motorists to undertake routine maintenance of their vehicles, adhere to safe driving and conduct all checks for the roadworthiness of their vehicles before going on trips outside the country.

The Traffic and Patrols Department is advising motorists to respect traffic rules, commit to the speed limit, use safety belts, maintain a safe distance between vehicles, avoid tailgating, take rest before travelling long distances, and to stay focused while driving and not be distracted by mobile phones or other devices.

Major Aysha Al Za’abi, head of Public Relations at the department, said the campaign featured awareness exhibitions and lectures, distribution of traffic safety and medical brochures and sending SMSes and tweets through social media platforms.

Smart services

For the convenience of motorists, the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ has launched the third generation of the smart teller kiosks (Sahl) in a number of Adnoc service stations (Adnoc Oasis) and integrated services centres (Tam) across the emirate of Abu Dhabi.

The Abu Dhabi Police said that 33 self-service e-payment machines had been installed and activated in these locations, including six in Al Ain, and seven in Al Dhafra region.

Sahl offers easy and user-friendly services and cutting-edge solutions such as vehicle registration renewal, fine enquiry and payments, issuing of replacement driver licences or vehicle registration certificates and services.

The Abu Dhabi Police stated that they are implementing a strategy of automation and smart solutions, in line with the mandate of UAE smart government, in order to reduce customer visits to counters and save time and effort.
