Taxi crash kills rider in RAK

Police said the taxi driver was trying to overtake truck but the car rammed its back

Ras Al Khaimah: A 42-year-old man died and two others were injured when a taxi they were travelling in crashed into a truck’s rear on Al Ghail road in Ras Al Khaimah, said police on Friday.

Colonel Ahmad Sum Al Naqbi, director of Traffic and Patrols Department, said the accident occurred on Thursday night when the taxi driver, who was driving his vehicle on a two-way road, attempted to overtake a truck from the wrong side and the car slammed into its rear.

The taxi, said police, then overturned several times.

police did not release the name of the taxi company.

One of the passengers died on the spot while the taxi driver, in his 30s, and another passenger, 32, sustained moderate to serious injuries.

The injured were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Police have referred the case to to the Public Prosecution for further action.

Col Al Naqbi appealed to drivers to stay within their own lanes and avoid overtaking other vehicles in an illegal manner.
