TDP founder NTR’s son Harikrishna dies in road accident

He was travelling from Hyderabad to Nellore when his car crashed into a road divider

Hyderabad: Nandamuri Harikrishna, son of former Chief Minister and legendary Telugu actor NT Rama Rao, died in a road accident early on Wednesday in Nalgonda district, 120km east of Hyderabad, police said.

The accident occurred when the vehicle he was travelling in from Hyderabad to Nellore overturned several times after hitting a road divider. The impact was such that Harikrishna fell out of the car. He was rushed to a private hospital at Narketpally with serious injuries to his head and chest. He succumbed to his injuries soon after.

Harikrishna’ brother-in-law, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, has rushed to Narkatpally hospital along with other family members.

Harikrishna’s actor sons NTR Junior and Kalyan Ram have also rushed from Hyderabad.

Sixty-one-year-old Harikrishna was fourth among 8 sons and 4 daughters of NTR.

A child actor Harikrishna later turned to politics and played a vital role in Chandrababu Naidu’s coup against NTR in August 1995. Naidu rewarded him with a ministry and made him the chief of the youth wing of Telugu Desam Party (TDP). He also served as member of Rajya Sabha. However, he was gradually sidelined in the party and intermittently acted in Telugu films.

Strangely, Harikrishna’s older son died in a road accident a few years ago in the same Nalgonda district. And his other son, one of the most popular Telugu film heroes NTR Junior, had a very narrow escape in another road accident in 2009 in the same Nalgonda district.

Harikrishna’s younger brother N Balakrishna is another popular Telugu film actor and TDP MLA from Hindupur in Andhra Pradesh.
