Timeline of Maoist violence in India

Major incidents of Naxalite-Maoist violence since 2008:

April 24, 2017: 24 personnel from the 74 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), a paramilitary force, were killed in an ambush in the Sukma district of Chhattisgarh.

March 11, 2014: 15 policemen killed in the Sukma district of Chhatisgarh.

Feb. 28, 2014: Six police officers, including a station house officer, killed in the Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh.

July 2, 2013: The superintendent of police for Pakur, in Jharkhand, and four other police officials killed in an attack in the Dumka area of the state.

May 25, 2013: In one of the deadliest attacks by Maoists-Naxalites, 25 Congress party leaders from Chhattisgarh were killed after their convoy was attacked. V.C. Shukla, former Union minister, who was severely injured, succumbed to his injuries on June 11.

October 18, 2012: Six CRPF personnel killed in a landmine explosion in the Gaya district of Bihar.

June 29, 2010: In one of the bloodiest attacks, 26 CRPF personnel killed in the Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh.

May 8, 2010: 8 CRPF personnel travelling in a bulletproof vehicle, killed in an explosion.

April 6, 2010: In what is till date the most severe attack, 75 CRPF personnel and a state police official killed in the Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh.

April 4, 2010: 11 members of the elite anti-Naxal Special Operations Group killed in a landmine blast in the Koraput district of Odisha.

Feb. 15, 2010: 24 personnel of the paramilitary Eastern Frontier Rifles (EFR) shot dead after Maoists attacked an EFR camp in West Midnapore district of West Bengal.

Oct. 8, 2009: 17 policemen killed after Maoists attacked a police station in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district.

June 16, 2009: 11 police officers killed in a landmine blast in Palamau district of Jharkhand.

May 22, 2009: 16 police officers killed in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra.

July 16, 2008: 21 policemen killed after Naxalites blew up the van they were travelling in, in Odisha’s Malkangiri district.

June 29, 2008: 38 greyhound commandos killed after Naxalites attacked their boat in the Balimela reservoir in Odisha.
