Tolerance underlying theme of Sixth ‘Forum for Promoting Peace’

ABU DHABI, 18th December, 2018 (WAM) — The upcoming visit of Pope Francis of the Vatican to the UAE in February reflects a significant aspect of the spirit of tolerance embodied by the UAE and its endeavours to establish itself as a leading nation in spreading the values of giving and peaceful coexistence and a driver of dialogue between religions, said Shaikh Abdullah Bin Bayyah, Chairman of the UAE Fatwa Council and President of the Forum for Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies.

Shaikh Bin Bayyah made the remarks at a news conference following the third meeting of the UAE Fatwa Council in the presence of Mohammad Mattar Al Kaabi, Chairman of the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments.


The Council extended appreciation to the UAE wise leadership against the backdrop of declaring 2019 as the Year of Tolerance by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

“The Declaration is yet a new testimony to the culture of tolerance and forgiveness embraced by the UAE, the seeds of which were sown by late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan,” added Bin Bayyah.

He noted that the sixth edition of the Forum for Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies next year will address tolerance and role of religions in spreading the values of peaceful coexistence between communities and people of different religious traditions.

For his part, Dr Al Kaabi, said the Founding Father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan sought to establish tolerance and noble values as a guiding principle for the UAE, noting that the UAE President’s declaration of 2019 as the Year of Tolerance provides a valuable opportunity to promote the true essence of the approach pursued by the country to inculcate the genuine values of brotherhood, mutual respect and cooperation.
