Toyota: Setting New Benchmark through the Futuristic Engines

Toyota Motor Corporation has always developed innovative engines. The brand sold 1.52 million electrified vehicles in 2017 and has a target of selling 5.5 million electrified vehicles per year by 2030 which is a part of “Environmental Challenge 2050”. Furthermore, as of today, Toyota has sold 10 million units of hybrid vehicles all around the world. After 20 years of introducing its first hybrid vehicle, Toyota has reached a staggering number of sales. The company has specifically excelled in hybrid engines, electric engines, and hydrogen engines, reducing 90 million tons of CO2 from the environment which is a promising step toward Challenge 2050.

When consumers purchase a Toyota, they are not simply purchasing a car, truck or van. They are placing their trust in our company.” said Akio Toyoda, President of Toyota Motor Corporation. Following this thought, Toyota has engineered some of the innovative engines that are not only revolutionary but have a positive impact on the environment. The developing countries like Saudi Arabia have shown a positive interest in hybrid and electric cars. About 1/3rd (32%) of Saudi citizens believe there is a strong market for electric and hybrid cars in Saudi Arabia. It is quite evident; hybrids cars have a potential future in Saudi Arabia.

Electric cars have been in the market from the mid-19th century. Since then, several automobile giants have tried their hands in this innovative technology. Toyota has found the way to modernize these electric engines and make them a mainstream phenomenon. The cost of running electric cars and charging has reduced over the years. Toyota is continually developing these electric engines and it is expected that cost will decrease even further in the next five years which would make it more convenient for the customers to buy electric cars. As it does not use gasoline or any carbon fuel, it does not produce CO2 at all. As for the current issue, which is a limited range, Toyota is working with its research and development team to improve the battery performance and incorporate advanced technologies. The brand has primarily produced compact cars, which are spacious from inside, at the moment that are suitable for city traffic and common parking issues.

Due to its efficient use of fuel, hybrid cars in Saudi Arabia are becoming popular. Also, in Europe, people have appreciated hybrid cars due to their noiseless and efficient performance. With Prius, Toyota introduced the first hybrid car in the automobile market in the late 1990s. Since then Toyota has made these cars a global sensation through stunning designs and nifty technology. Running on the unique combination of electric battery and gasoline, the hybrid cars are powered by energy from the battery. The petrol engine pumps up only the time of acceleration. This saves a lot of fuel as well as it is helpful to the environment. Since its introduction in the 1990s, Toyota has made a lot of progress in hybrid engines. The hybrid transaxle used in the latest models is of compact size with greater fuel and space efficiency. The reduction gears used in the car lessen the high rpm of the motors, so that the power is transferred to wheels amplifying the torque to generate more driving power. The regenerative braking system uses the deceleration energy to recharge the battery, saving a lot of time of external charging. The city traffic can make the most of this process as acceleration is followed by deceleration which becomes a continuous cycle. Started with Prius, Toyota has now introduced hybrid versions of Camry and Avalon to provide more options to customers around the world.

Introduced in 2014, Toyota Mirai is a hydrogen-powered car. The hydrogen-powered cars rely on fuel cells that turn hydrogen fuel into energy and move the car. The hydrogen cars only emit water vapor residues. Till December 2017, Toyota has sold around 5300 units of Mirai with the USA being the top-selling country. With one fully filled tank, you can drive up to 650 km.

Another thing to mention about this car is it takes only three minutes to get filled. As technology changes, Toyota looks forward to bring more changes in the hydrogen engine, which is likely to be the future of cars. Their price is expected to decrease significantly over the next ten years.

Toyota is undeniably being proactive with its innovative engines and is making them better with its every new step. The efforts to improve the diversity in those vehicles are pretty evident, and soon, the automobile industry can expect more eco-friendly cars from Toyota.
