UAE Cabinet approves policy for elderly

Abu Dhabi: The UAE Cabinet on Sunday approved a National Policy on Elderly, with the aim of paying greater attention to elderly Emiratis and benefit from retirees’ experience in the marketplace.

According to the national policy, special health insurance will be provided for the elderly, new centers will be set up to provide them with modern skills and new houses will be developed to meet their needs.

The policy also includes discount and protection programmes to protect them from violence and abuse.

The policy was approved during the Cabinet meeting chaired by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

On his twitter page, Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid said: “Today, I chaired a Cabinet meeting during which we approved the national policy on elderly, and we replaced the term ‘elderly’ with ‘old Emiratis’. They are old in their experience and serving the nation.”
