WARSAW, 3rd October 2018 (WAM) – Yousif Eisa Al-Sabri, UAE Ambassador to Poland, has addressed the opening ceremony of the new academic year at the Jagiellonian University Institute of Oriental Studies in the Polish city of Krakow.
The opening addresses of the function were followed by a lecture by Ambassador Yousif Eisa Al-Sabri, entitled “Cultural Relations between the UAE and Poland”.
Ambassador Al Sabri said that the year 2018 is a special year for both countries as the UAE marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, while Poland celebrates 100 years of independence.
The ceremony was preceded by the Ambassador’s meeting with the JU Rector Prof. Wojciech Nowak, the Dean of the JU Faculty of Philology Prof. Elzbieta Gorska and the Head of the JU Institute of Oriental Studies Prof. Barbara Michalak-Pikulska.
The conversation focused on cooperation ties between the Jagiellonian University Institute of Oriental Studies and the UAE Embassy in Poland, with a special focus on the next year’s celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the first oriental studies unit at the Jagiellonian University.
During the opening ceremony of the new academic year at the JU Institute of Oriental Studies, the new students were addressed by the JU Rector, the Dean of the Faculty of Philology, and the Head of the Institute of Oriental Studies. In his speech Prof. Wojciech Nowak pointed out that the high quality of education at the institute is reflected in the number of its alumni who find employment at diplomatic institutions.
He also stressed that Oriental Studies graduates will play a very important role as mediators between different cultures in a globalised world.
