UAE to work with international organisations for food security

ROME, 12th May, 2018 (WAM) — Mariam Hareb Almheiri, Minister of State for Food Security, held high-level meetings in Rome with officials of the international organisations concerned with food security.

The meetings were held in the presence of Dr. Abdul Wahab Zayed, Secretary-General of the Khalifa International Date Palm Award.

Almheiri discussed the potential for establishing food security alliances between the UAE and other countries of the world while meeting Graziano da Silva, Director-General of the FAO, Mario Arvelo, Chair of the FAO’s Committee on World Food Security, and Sara Cahill, Food Commissioner, Committee CODEX.

“We need to align our future strategies with research and development to ensure that they are sustainable and consistent with our endeavours to strengthen partnerships with the relevant organisations,” Almheiri said.

She called for an active partnership between the UAE and the FAO to boost efforts for future food security, both regionally and internationally.
