Parking spaces will now be free on weekends for visitors and official holidays in the capital
Abu Dhabi: The Department of Transport (DoT) on Tuesday announced it was amending the timings for villa visitors parking permits, with parking spaces now made free for visitors during the weekend (Friday-Saturday) and official holidays.
The DoT also said that parking permits for visitors during the week (Sunday-Thursday) would now be valid for four hours instead of eight hours once the request is submitted, between 2am-6am.
As well as the new timings, DoT also announced a new added service to its villa visitors parking permit system which will allow resident parking permit holders to register three other phone numbers along with the owner’s main phone number, with all of the numbers valid for sending an SMS permit request.
Under the villa visitors parking system, resident parking permit holders can request a permit in two cases. The first is for occasions such as weddings or any other type of large gathering. In such cases the owner of the villa should call the contact centre on 80088888 to make a request for a visitors parking permit.
The second is the visitors’ permits. Resident parking holders should send a text message from their registered phone number. The text message should be sent to 3009 mentioning the city code and plate code, plate number, sector number and the number of hours. The permit will be valid for four hours after it is submitted between 2am-6am.
Each SMS will be charged according to the tariff of the service providers. Visitors permits is free of charge for UAE nationals and Dh2 for non-UAE nationals per hour. Customers can specify the number of hours in the text message.
