The project aims to reduce traffic congestion between Nouakchott Street, Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed and Al Awir roads by constructing bridges that will shorten the journey’s time by 50 per cent.
The project was carried out after Dragon Mart’s extension brought an increase in traffic snarls to the area, which is located near International City.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, said: “The opening of Al Awir Road Improvement Project (Phase I) will contribute to the smooth flow of traffic from International City heading to Downtown Dubai.
“It included the construction of a bridge with an estimated capacity of 1,000 vehicles per hour, which will ease the traffic pressure on the roundabout at the junction of Al Awir and Shaikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street.
“It will be easy for motorists coming from Hatta to access the Dragon Mart and the International City via Al Awir Road,” said Al Tayer.
