Worker steals 7 ACs, 13 doors & 2 water tanks

Defendant tells court he robbed businessman’s farm for not paying him for finishing chores

Dubai: A worker told a court on Sunday that he stole seven ACs, 13 aluminium doors and two water tanks from a businessman’s farm over unpaid chores.

The 21-year-old Pakistani worker and two runaway suspects were said to have used scissors to break the locks of the Emirati businessman’s farm from where they stole ACs, doors and water tanks in November in Al Lusayli area.

“Yes we did it. The businessman had hired us to carry out some work for him … and when he didn’t pay us for that, we robbed his farm,” said the 21-year-old as he entered a guilty plea before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Sunday.

When asked by presiding judge Fahd Al Shamsi about his demands from the court, the suspect responded: “I am guilty. I want mercy and to go back home.”

According to the charge sheet, prosecutors charged the suspect and two fugitives of breaking into the Emirati businessman’s farm and stealing seven ACs, two water tanks [50 gallons each] and 13 doors.

The businessman told prosecutors he came to know about the thefts when he went to check his farm. “I discovered that the front door had been broken and ACs, aluminium doors and two tanks had been stolen, I informed the police about it.”

A police sergeant told prosecutors that primary police interrogations revealed the involvement of the 21-year-old suspect and two runaways in the theft.

“An informant alerted us that the suspect was present in Al Warqa area. We apprehended him and he admitted during questioning, that he and two runaway suspects broke into the farm and loaded the stolen items on a pickup truck. They sold the stolen items and gave Dh30 to the pickup driver,” the sergeant told prosecutors.

A ruling in the case will be announced on April 22.
