BAKU, 10th May, 2025 (WAM) – The 2025 Oil and Gas World Cup kicked off at the ASK Arena in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, with the participation of 12 elite 7-a-side football teams representing leading oil companies from three continents: Asia, Africa, and Europe. The tournament is being held from May 9 to 12.
The opening ceremony was held with a large attendance of officials and executives from oil and gas companies. Jamal Al-Ghandour, Head of the Referees Committee and member of the Organising Committee, cut the ribbon to inaugurate the event.
This first edition of the tournament features two categories: Elite and Masters. The Masters category is for players aged over 40 years. Each match lasts 30 minutes, divided into two halves of 15 minutes each.
Ali Al-Ma’ani, Chairman of the Organising Committee, emphasised that the strong start of this inaugural edition marks a positive and pivotal step toward the tournament’s sustainability and growth. He stressed its potential to attract global oil and gas companies, fostering networking and diverse partnerships.
