Pakistan to boost internet connectivity, AI infrastructure

ISLAMABAD, 1st August, 2024 (WAM) — Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the country’s commitment to enhancing internet connectivity and fostering artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure during a meeting with the Asia Internet Coalition (AIC) delegation, led by Managing Director Jeff Paine.

According to the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), the discussions focused on data security, ethical internet content, and cybersecurity measures.

The Prime Minister emphasised the government’s dedication to building a robust AI infrastructure and positioning Pakistan as a regional leader in AI development.

He added that under the Digital Pakistan Initiative, the whole system was being digitised and expressed the hope that the Federal Board of Revenue’s digitisation would be a milestone towards economic automation.

The meeting also discussed the ongoing consultation with stakeholders regarding the draft Personal Data Protection Bill, a crucial step in ensuring data privacy and security.
